Kaua'i Day 4
June 17, 2007

Island hopping and resort lounging

More of today's pictures here.

After a short Hawai'ian church service (interesting)... we get our bags together and head to the airport. We're hopping over to Kaua'i for the rest of our island paradise vacation! Paul and Geri (Kathy's parents) have a timeshare through Mariott and have arranged for us all to stay at the relatively new Waiohai Beach Club on Po'ipu Beach on the southern shore of Kaua'i.

This place is *really* nice. This is the view from our room... that's the Pacific through the trees at the center.

Our room locations were perfect. We were far enough away from the pools, bars, and beach that the only sounds we really had were the palms rustling outside our windows at night - we slept with the windows open!!! But, this place was so small that it took (literally) only 2-3 minutes to walk from our door to the beach! Perfect.

As we got checked in, Steve, Tim, and I ran back to the (pretty much only) town center on Kaua'i... where they had a CostCo. Since this was a timeshare villa, they each had full kitchens, so we saved money on breakfasts/lunches/etc. by buying a bunch of stuff in bulk and splitting it. Again... perfect.

Back at the villa, we spent the rest of the day relaxing and exploring... these pictures don't really do the resort justice:

The perfect beach:

Surf's up!

Palm trees and blue skies!

A good book, a few Mai Tais, and these chairs... we became close friends.

The "Volcano Red" Ale wasn't too bad either!

Giant Koi in the front pond:

One of the funnier, and perhaps lesser known, bits of Kaua'ian history are the wild chickens. They are *EVERYWHERE*... roosters, hens, and little chicks... with no real natural predators, they've multiplied and have really become part of the local "color". I bought Andrew a t-shirt with a big red rooster on the back (like the one below) that says "Kauai Bird of Paradise" on top and "(not an) ENDANGERED SPECIES" below.

At night... the tiki torches were lit:

... making for some cool artsy-fartsy photo ops:

But... it's time to get some rest, because tomorrow's a *LONG* day, taking a catamaran ride along the famous Napali Coast!

Next page! This way for more adventures!!!!!
